To provide transparency and public involvement in the revision of the Philippine National Standards for the Grading and Classification of Coconut Coir (PNS/BAFPS 21:2008) and Coconut Peat (PNS/BAFPS 74:2009), a public consultative meeting was held on October 11, 2017 at El Bajada Hotel, J.P. Laurel Ave, Davao City. The revision was spearheaded by the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) and Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).

 The public consultation was attended by representatives from various government agencies, academe and private stakeholders involved in both coir and coco peat industry from the different regions in Mindanao. The Technical Secretariat recorded all comments and suggestions from the participants which will be reviewed during the finalization of the two standards.

The revision of the existing standards was conducted to consider possible modifications in the minimum requirements, grading and baling of coconut coir for both domestic and international trade, as well as updates on the minimum requirements, grading and packaging of coconut peat for agricultural application.
