GENERAL SANTOS CITY - The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) successfully conducted a Public Consultative Meeting (PCM) for the development of the Philippine National Standard (PNS) on Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) for Swine and Slaughter Hogs Grading. The activity was held on March 22, 2018 at Greenleaf Hotel. The PCM aimed to provide transparency and public involvement in the development of the two standards and gather relevant comments and suggestions for the improvement of the drafts.
Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XII Technical Director for Operations Mr. Zaldy Boloron gave welcoming remarks and inspirational message for the participants coming from swine industry, meat establishments, government agencies, academe, and local government units. He gave emphasis on the importance of harmonization of national standards with international standards in order to penetrate the ASEAN and global markets.
Dr. Oliver Abanto of University of the Philippines Los Baños facilitated the discussion of the draft PNS for Slaughter Hogs Grading while Dr. Lourdes Ersando of Bureau of Animal Industry was invited to be the technical expert for GAHP for swine.
Two other Public Consultative Meetings for these standards were held in Manila and Cebu last July and October 2017, respectively.
