The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) through the Standards Development Division (SDD) is currently developing the Philippine National Standard (PNS) for the Grading and Classification of Buntal Fiber which outlines the minimum requirements/specifications for the commercial buntal fiber.

In order to improve the draft standard developed by the Technical Working Group (TWG) and provide transparency and public involvement, BAFS in collaboration with the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) spearheaded its first Public Consultation in Bohol on February 9, 2017. Participants from Local Government Units (LGU), Department of Agriculture attached agencies, farmers, traders and processors attended the event. Comments and suggestions from the participants were duly noted by the BAFS Technical Secretariat.
