QUEZON CITY – The Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) and the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), in cooperation with the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (US DTRA) and Black & Veatch, convened the Information Session and Introduction to the “Enhancement of Biosafety and Biosecurity Capabilities Project” held last August 14, 2017 at Luxent Hotel, Quezon City.

METRO MANILA – The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards has recently conducted the 2017 BAFS Focal Persons Midyear Seminar-Orientation. BAFS Regional Focal Persons (RFPs) serve as the focal point for BAFS activities at the regional level. With the assistance from the BAFS RFP, the Bureau has been successfully conducting public consultations, focus group discussions, farm inspections, workshops and other related activities. Considering the institutional restructuring made at the national and regional level in 2016, BAFS requested for the reaffirmation of the composition of BAFS RFPs. Special Order No. 1063 Series of 2017 provides the designation of BAFS RFPs.

BUTUAN CITY – The DA Regional Field Office XIII, in collaboration with the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS), conducted an Inception Meeting on the establishment of Regional GAP Team (RGT) and Regional GAHP Team (RGhT) last May 15, 2017.  The activity aimed to discuss the principles, objectives, benefits and stages of implementation of RGT and RGhT. Further, the meeting intended to present the roles and responsibilities of its members as well as the distinction between RGT/RGhT and regional inspectors.  

QUEZON CITY – The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) embarked on the development of a Philippine National Standard (PNS) on Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) Guidelines that aims to serve as a general document that will assist DA regulatory agencies in comparing and selecting welfare-enhancing regulatory options to attain public policy objectives.

 In reference to the Expert's Advice from the Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Development of the Philippine National Standards (PNS) for Organic Soil Amendments, during its meeting last March 27, 2017, on the use of processing aids not allowed in the PNS of Organic Soil Amendments (PNS/BAFS 183:2016), particularly those that are 'synthetic', BAFS-Officially Accredited Organic Certifying Bodies (OCBs) shall not accept applications for certification of OSA products that use processing aids not allowed in the PNS for OSA, particularly those that are 'synthetic'.
